The Brief

The challenge for this project tackled the notion that ‘small talk is boring’. Specifically, starting the conversation between classmates on an online/hybrid learning basis.

According to my insights gathered, students feel it to be a long and tedious task to go out of their way and start a conversation with their peers, especially online. This proves to be a problematic viewpoint as a student are thus inhibiting themselves from a great social experience with their peers in their college years.
Process
During the ideation process, I went through many ideas, testing’s, research, and insights that helped me move toward my final solution. Below is a diagram that summarises the process throughout the project.

Some of the main explorations that did not pass are as follows:

1) An accessory piece that the user can wear and customize however they please. The piece will showcase a part of themselves and hopefully strike a conversation. (Prototype of the product is showcased)

2)A multiplayer game where students can play together while simultaneously getting to know each other. This is like Mine Game meets 20 questions, but more fun.

In the third image (3), you can see the lists of questions, prompts and icebreakers, that I researched to see which ones would get the best reactions and drive a conversation forward.

Solution

The final solution for this challenge is to create a miniature campaign for the school, based on teams, where students are hosted and lead to breaking their barriers and forming meaningful connections with their fellow peers. To get the best possible results, the event mentioned needing to be interactive and most importantly fun.
The Brand
The brand name ‘Hello!’ is inspired by a friendly non-confrontational common greeting, we often use in society to positively
 greet – hello.
The phrase is casual, but not too informal and leads way for an open conversation, which is the aim of this campaign event.

Hello! wishes for young people to be free, silly, and open with each other when put into a social setting and it assists in doing such with specially crafted fun games and tasks to so to break the ice and allow students to feel comfortable with each other.

Results
The event kicks off with an icebreaker that will get students feeling silly but is enjoyable all the same. Then they are led by carefully crafted questions that evoke conversation. In between the conversations, there are prompts and games, to bring energy to the conversations and evoke other inspiring insights to the other peers. Overall, the campaign where it is is a starting point for growth and opportunities for students to meet up and have fun at least once a week.
